America's Worst Enemy Quiz
What is the leading cause of death in the United States?
romatherapy Materia Medica

(Aniba rosaeodora)

 (Excerpted from Aromatherapy)

The French call this South American rain forest tree bois de rose, or "wood of rose." Rosewood was first distilled in 1875 in French Guiana, but became so popular that the trees were all cut. It is one of the many plants that make the rain forest a valuable resource to be protected, but it is also one that promotes their destruction. We hope that what happened in French Guiana will not be repeated, and recommend using coriander seed as a substitute.

Family: Lauraceae
Extraction: Distilled from wood chips. The pleasant fragrance is sweet, woodsy and rosy.
Medicinal Action: Eases headaches, cold, fever, infections, vaginitis and nausea.
Cosmetic/Skin Use: Rejuvenates cells and helps all skin types.
Emotional Attribute: An antidepressant, rosewood encourages tranquility and constructive emotional work.
