Their own studies began at the College of Traditional Acupuncture in England in 1972. Korngold studied herbal medicine at the Kunming Traditional Medicine Research Institue and the Shanghai College of Traditional Chinese medicine. Licensed by the State of California since 1976, they are engaged in the active practice of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine at their San Francisco clinic, Chinese Medicine Works.
Beinfield and Korngold are on the faculty of the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and have lectured at University of California San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine, UC Berkeley, Andrew Weil's Program in Integrative Medicine, Beth Israel Hospital in New York, and the Office of Alternative Medicine/NIH. They are diplomates of the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and on the Advisory Board of Natural Health Magazine, WholeHealthMDAdvisor, and the Integrative Medical Arts Group. Korngold has also taught at the San Francisco College of Acupuncture and at San Francisco State University. Beinfield received the 1997 Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine award for clinical scholarship for an article she co-authored with her father, breast surgeon and Yale faculty member Malcolm Beinfield, titled Revisisting Accepted Wisdom in the Management of Breast Cancer.
