Los Angeles: July 13, 2005. Dr. David Eisenberg will deliver the opening keynote address at the International Complementary & Natural Healthcare Expo (CAM Expo West), October 7-9, 2005 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Dr. Eisenberg will officially kick off CAM Expo West with his presentation on Complementary and Integrated Medicine: National Trends and An Emerging Research Agenda. Dr Eisenberg will review definitions and terminology in this area and then to review national trends regarding:

  • patterns of use of Complementary and Alternative Therapies;
  • research involving Complementary and Integrative Medical Therapies;
  • highlights from the recently released NIH 5 Year Plan (2005-2209);
  • highlights from the recently released Institute of Medicine Report on Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
Dr. Eisenberg is the Director of the Osher Institute at Harvard Medical School and the Division for Research and Education in Complementary and Integrative Medical Therapies. He is also the Bernard Osher Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

In 1979, under the auspices of the National Academy of Sciences Dr. Eisenberg served as the first US medical exchange student to the People’s Republic of China. In 1993, he was the medical advisor to the PBS Series, “Healing and the Mind” with Bill Moyers.

More recently, Dr. Eisenberg has served as an advisor to the National Institutes of Health, the Food and Drug Administration and the Federation of State Medical Boards with regard to complementary, alternative and integrative medicine research, education and policy. From 2003-2005 Dr. Eisenberg served on a National Academy of Sciences Committee responsible for the Institute of Medicine Report entitled, “The Use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine by the American Public.”
