2. Stasis of the large intestine
Clinical manifestations: A distended full abdomen, abdominal pain (intensified with pressure), constipation, nausea and vomiting. The tongue coating is white and sticky and the pulse shi and deep.
Aetiology and pathology: This syndrome may be due to food retention, gastro-intestinal parasites, or blood stagnation; all these factors cause obstruction of the qi and functional derangement of the large intestine.
