Exploratory Center Grant Awards of September 30, 1994

Center for Alternative Treatment of HIV/AIDS, Bastyr University Seattle. Washington

Funds to be used for following purposes:

  1. to describe forms and patterns of use of alternative therapies for patients with HIV/AIDS;
  2. to screen and evaluate such therapies;
  3. to train alternative medical practitioners in scientific approach to evaluation of their therapies;
  4. to educate conventional scientific biomedical community about alternative therapies for HIV/AIDS.
The Center will focus on nutrition, traditional and ethnomedicine, energetic therapies, pharmacological and biological therapies, and bioelectromagnetic medicine. The center has a clinical data section, an education section, and a bibliographic resources section.

Center to Evaluate Alternative Therapies for Addictions and Related Disorders, Minneapolis (MN) Medical Research

Funds to be used to focus on utilization, applicability, and effectiveness of certain alternative medical treatments for addictive, health, and psychological complications of substance abuse. Major activities will be:

  1. to establish linkages among alternative medical practitioners and between alternative medicine and conventional medical practitioners;
  2. to conduct field assessments of alternative therapies;
  3. to develop and promote the transfer of knowledge of alternative therapies through education and technical assistance; and
  4. to work with an advisory group, conduct peer reviews and evaluations, and maintain liaison with other alternative medical centers and interests.
