Ideals:
To Heal
The process, within living systems, of recovering health, optimum function and vitality; in certain cases to heal is to surrender and to forgive.
Healing
We can heal ourselves and we can complement medical treatment with self-healing methods. The human body has the capacity to produce a powerful self-healing medicine, a vitalizing elixir - naturally within. This medicine is easy to turn on using the methods from "The Healer Within" and from all of the ancient (or new) health enhancement or self-healing methods that trigger the naturally occurring health enhancing mechanisms of the body, mind, spirit interaction. "The Healer Within", this marvelous medicine that we produce within us, can be used for all diseases, causes no side effects and is absolutely free.
Healer
That which authentically heals, whether it is an idea, a personal action, a medicine or a health practitioner who assists in activating the natural healing capacity of the body, mind, spirit.
Medicine
A remedy or procedure that reduces the threat of disease. Medicine is not always a healer, it may merely intervene in the progress of the disease. Medicine may save a life or reduce pain but it is not really accurate to say that medical intervention actually improves health.
In a much different sense the definition of "medicine" in ancient cultures was - "power". In the native American culture powerful people are said to have "big medicine". In ancient Chinese thinking medicine (sometimes called an "elixir") is something that you can make within the laboratory of your own body.
In our culture, where medicine is in crisis, it is a powerful relief to know that every citizen can help to resolve the crisis by doing some very simple self-care practices. The medical community promises (in the Western tradition) to "do no harm". In the ancient traditions "the superior physician teaches people to remain well". These two promises (West and East) can work together. Self-healing and natural medicine should be used whenever it is possible and appropriate and conventional medicine when it is absolutely necessary - everyone wins.
Self-reliance
To rely upon oneself. Self-reliance is one of the foundation values of the American culture and it is an important feature of democracy around the world. It is worth noting the extent to which our medically based health care system has fostered self-reliance. Discovering and then activating the "Healer Within" is a profound step that the health care professions can easily foster, a step that average citizens can easily take to re-affirm the value of self-reliance.
