365 Practical Ways to Feel Better and Live Longer

Sooner or later, every woman suffers a yeast infection, which occurs when the normal environment of the vagina is disrupted and small amounts of yeast begin to multiply. Symptoms include itching, irritation, and redness around the vulva and labia, a thick, white discharge, and burning when you urinate or have sex.

To get rid of a yeast infection, douche with a mild solution of 1 to 3 tablespoons of vinegar diluted in a quart of warm water. Repeat once a day until the symptoms subside. If symptoms persist, consult your physician.

You can prevent yeast infections by taking these personal hygiene measures.

Wear underpants and panty hose with cotton crotches.
Change underwear and workout clothes immediately after exercising.
Use unscented tampons or sanitary pads.
Change tampons and sanitary pads frequently.
Don't use bath oils, bubble baths, or feminine hygiene sprays.
Dry the vaginal area thoroughly after you shower or bathe.
